Top diet tips from our London nutrition coach

As a busy London nutrition coach, people often ask me for diet tips on how to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Here are five of my top diet tips:

1. Eat real food

The problem today is that many of the most commonly eaten ?foods? tend to be so overly processed, refined, and/or packed with trans fats and sugars, that they are often deprived of any health-giving nutrients whatsoever. Not only is processed food making people fat, it is causing disease.
Energy is lost when your body cannot extract vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from the ?food? you eat, and when your system becomes weighed down by preservatives, chemicals and substances that provide zero nutrition to the body.
Whenever possible, eat seasonal, local, minimally processed, organic produce (many non-organic foods can be laced with more than 300 pesticides!) that is alive with enzymes, minerals and vitamins. You also should cut out sugar and carbonated drinks.

2. Eat alkaline

For good health your blood needs to be more alkaline than acid. Once digested, foods form either an acid or an alkaline ash.
Plant foods, especially leafy greens are highly alkaline and should make up 80% of your diet ideally.
Acidic foods include: animal protein, sugar, dairy, soda, coffee, flour.
Eating plenty of alkaline foods will help you feel more energized and improve your mood.

3. Watch your portion sizes

When we prepare a plate of food, we feel the need to fill it up completely.
If you start out with a smaller-sized salad plate, there is only so much you can pile on, so you will end up consuming fewer calories.

4. Drink green tea.

Drinking a cup of green tea twenty minutes before a meal helps you eat less by reducing your appetite and helping you to feel ?full?. Additionally, studies have shown that drinking green tea twice per day helps curb appetite and even helps reduce the formation of fat cells.

5. Add enzymes and probiotics

Enzymes help you fully digest the foods you eat, leaving your digestive system clean and your body energized.
Probiotics create a healthy gut flora, which supports immunity and nutrient absorption. These friendly little bacteria even have the ability to help us lose fat, particularly from the abdominal region.

These diet tips will help with weight loss whilst also boosting your energy levels and vitality.
